Hi everyone! With the school year coming to a close, I though it would be good to update you all on some progress that we’ve made and some changes for the future.
Our teams did some great work this semester so I just wanted to give you all a brief update on where we ended. The electrical team did some strong research and is ready to make more developments this summer. The mechanical team has mostly finished the design of Manta Ray and is ready to get building in Makerspace. The software team made significant improvements to the computer vision and simulator. The embedded systems team worked on supports for turtle. Here’s a sneak peak of some cool designs we worked on for next year’s competition!
In terms of our plans for this summer, unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we had to cancel our registration to the Robosub 2020 competition. Although this was a disappointment to the team, the extra year we’ll get to prepare will be beneficial to our entry in Robosub 2021.
Looking forward to next year, we have some exciting new announcements for our 2020-2021 E-Board! Next year’s software team lead will be Swapnil Patel and our new President is Garrick Lo! Garrick was this year’s Mechanical Lead and has been in AUV since freshman year. Before college, he was also involved in Robosub. Garrick most enjoys how multidisciplinary AUV is. While welcoming our E-Board, we would also like to say a farewell to our current president, Julian Velandia! Julian has enjoyed being in AUV as it has allowed him to grow not only as a student, but as a leader and engineer as well! Looking to the future, Julian has big plans after he graduates, and will be pursuing a Masters in Electrical Engineering at Columbia University!
While we will miss our graduating seniors and seeing each other at build hours, we are looking forward to being back together when it’s safe. Good luck with finals everyone and fight on!
